New DenShield Tooth Sensitivity Therapy Product Announced
Provides immediate relief in the office and long-term home maintenance
ALACHUA FL - September 3, 2005 -- NovaMin Technology Inc. (NTI) will begin shipping its new "Story-Box" packaging for its DenShield Tooth Sensitivity Therapy product on November 1. The innovative new package combines an in-office treatment -- applied by the dentist for immediate relief of tooth hypersensitivity -- with a special maintenance dentifrice that can be used once per week to maintain the relief indefinitely. Both components come together in packaging that serves as an educational tool for the dentist. The new package includes the in-office treatment with enough dentifrice to last the patient approximately 6 months.
In clinical studies conducted in Europe, the product provided almost 90% reduction in sensitivity to both ice and cold air stimuli. The product relies on NovaMin (Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate) as its active ingredient. The NovaMin releases ionic calcium and phosphorus that builds new tooth mineral (hydroxyapatite) in the open dentine tubules which are responsible for sensitivity. In U.S. clinical studies involving teeth scheduled for extraction, the in-office treatment occluded over 80% of open tubules, as compared to untreated controls.
"We found that patients are very dissatisfied with their sensitivity treatment options." said Dr. David Greenspan of NTI, "There are varnishes that offer immediate relief, but no way for the patient to maintain their effects, which rarely last beyond a few weeks in most cases. Sensitivity toothpastes seem to have modest effects typically, and force patients to abandon their favorite toothpaste -- which probably tastes better".
The DenShield product addresses these concerns by offering the immediate effects of a varnish, with the ability to maintain it at home through a simple once-weekly brushing. The patient receives immediate and lasting relief and can continue using their favorite daily toothpaste.
The two components are packaged together in a unique "story box" that opens like a book, and contains a graphic illustration of how the product occludes tubules and offers relief. This is a convenient educational tool for the dentist.
